The Brand Safety Institute (BSI), the leading industry group focused on brand safety for the digital marketing and advertising industry, announced today that industry leader Erica DeLorenzo has joined the organization as Chief Operating Officer. DeLorenzo joins the group at a pivotal time to help lead the growth and operations of the group.

“The industry has shown great enthusiasm for improving brand safety outcomes since we started BSI to help companies protect their brands,” said co-founder Neal Thurman. “As BSI continues to expand, we are incredibly excited that Erica is joining us. Over the course of Erica’s career serving different parts of the digital advertising supply chain, she has been a leader in advocating for a better, more integrated process. Erica’s knowledge, management capabilities, and passion for our mission will accelerate our ability to build partnerships, listen to the needs of our members, and develop the knowledge and tools that will help the industry continue to advance the practice of brand safety.”

DeLorenzo brings more than 18 years of leadership experience in advertising and marketing including, most recently, seven years at MMA Global, departing as Senior Vice President, Membership. She also spent four years in business and sales development at WildTangent and more than three years directing the development of industry practices at the IAB, where she worked with pioneers in the industry including Louis Jones, the BSI’s Brand Safety Officer-in-Residence, to address critical and cutting-edge issues.

During her time at the IAB and the MMA, DeLorenzo led efforts to establish standards and guidelines for the newly forming digital advertising ecosystem. “It was a game changing opportunity to have started my career at the IAB and watch the industry come together, though not without discomfort, around basic building blocks such as standard ad sizes and ad-counting standards,” she recalled. “This instilled in me the value of creating community-focused initiatives and resources that facilitate business through trust and transparency.”

“I’ve had the pleasure of working with Erica since I joined this industry 15 years ago and no one brings more knowledge or passion to their work. Her experience in leading major programs at every level, from marketer through to publishers will help us further raise the bar on BSI’s work and the collective brand safety efforts of the entire industry,” said Mike Zaneis, co-founder of BSI and CEO of Trustworthy Accountability Group.

The Brand Safety Institute is an essential part of staying ahead of brand, media, and public safety issues that can undermine advertising effectiveness and the positive potential of online content. Brand safety outcomes depend largely on the cooperation across the supply chain.

DeLorenzo’s expertise in leading business operations and growth based on the principle of “a rising tide raises all ships” has resulted in her success of building communities of practice, and business models, that foster a strong combination of communication and collaboration. Through the continued advancements and changes to content consumption, DeLorenzo believes “operationalizing brand and people safety is one of the most principled efforts we can make both as professionals and as organizations.”

In addition to her industry experience, DeLorenzo is the founder of Reframework, an exploration into regenerative business practices, healthy workplaces, and the relationship between industry and environment. She holds a B.A. from the University of Michigan, and a J.D. from the Cardozo School of Law at Yeshiva University.
